According to researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2017 was the warmest year on record in the ocean. The study measured the rising temperature of the ocean as a whole, but the Atlantic and Antarctic Oceans, they found, experienced the most warming.

Most of us think that the plastic we put in our blue boxes goes somewhere to be put to good use. Actually, until the beginning of this year, it was baled and shipped to China. What they did with it there is unclear. Some was bleached, chipped, and reused. Much was incinerated. Now China won’t take our recyclables and we don’t know what to do about it. Currently, it is just piling up and in some places we are incinerating it ourselves.
